WORKING CHILDREN SCHOOL REINTEGRATION
Organization: Xilonem Women's Association of Esteli
Network Representative: Candida Laguna Verde
Nourish children’s families with basic foods, and children with recreational activities

Educate children with support to go to school, and parents with workshops on health and legal rights issues

Build power for children and parents with awareness of health issues, rights, and self-esteem, and for parents with responsibility for their children’s education

Annual budget: $12,817

This project by the Xilonem Women’s Association seeks primarily to reintegrate working children into regular school attendance and academic progress. It supports students with the supplies they need to attend classes and with food packets for their entire families. Children also receive academic support at the Xilonem office. They also participate in discussions on health and legal rights issues and recreational activities. Parents attend meetings on similar topics and take responsibility for their children’s education.

Exptected results:

  • Guaranteed reintegration of 25 children into schools
  • School and nutrition resources provided to the families of the 25 children, with the goal of guaranteeing their attendance in class
  • Agreements from parents to reduce children’s work hours
  • Mothers and fathers who take responsibility for their children’s education
  • Improved habit of reading among the children
